Boycott: Horizon, Aurora Organic
April 29, 2007
Whenever I buy milk, I get organic milk. Many times in the past, I bought Horizon’s organic milk. But after finding out that Horizon’s organic milk isn’t all that organic, I will not buy Horizon any more. I found out about this on Mercola.com. Horizon Organic supplies Wal-Mart and continually ignored federal organic standards not allowing cows access to pasture. Horizon’s organic milk, if you can call it that, actually comes from factory-style dairy farms according to Ronnie Cummins of the Organic Consumers Association. The cows are kept in intensive confinement and come from conventional farms. Horizon’s practices are so problematic, the Organic Consumers Association has called for a consumer boycott on Horizon and its partner Aurora Organic. This is the first boycott for an organic product. If you want to spend your money on organic milk, it seems like the smart thing to do is to stay away from Horizon and Aurora Organic and get real organic milk from other sources.
Actually, on Mercola.com, Dr. Mercola makes a suggestion to drink fresh raw milk instead of pasteurized milk. I’m not sure where I can get raw milk near where I live, but I will find out. One more thing, in the comment area at Mercola.com there was a comment made that referred to Dr. Monica Marcu (www.drinklifein.com), author of Miracle Tree, recommending dark green leafy plants for source of calcium. If you have any information about organic milk and great sources of calcium, please comment and let me know. Thank you!

Agreed that Horizon and Aurora should not be your organic milk of choice. Safe, real organic options include Organic Valley and Natural by Nature Milks: http://organicelitist.com/2009/01/06/got-milk/
